Hyperaldosteronism

Hyperaldosteronism is elevated aldosteron in plasma.

Demarcation

It is of importance to distinguish hyper- and hyporeninemic hyperaldosteronism. While the former is caused by hight renin levels, in the the latter case primarily elevated aldosteron levels suppress renin secretion.

Diseases

Gitelman syndrome
As in all salt wasting nephropathies a hyperreninemic hyperaldosteronism is observed.
