Lp(a) hyperlipoproteinemia is defined by elevated plasma levels of Lp(a). Usually LDL cholesterol levels are elevated in parallel. Lp(a)) correlate with the risk of coronary artery disease and arteriosclerosis. Genetically the Lp(a) values are determined by the number of copies of type 4-2 kringles in the gene.
