Das vom AP2S1-Gen kodierte Protein gehört zum Clathrin assoziierten Adapter Komplex, welcher für das Recycling des Calcium sensing in den coated pits eine Bedeutung besitzt. Mutationen sind für die autosomal dominante familiäre hypocalciurische Hypercalciämie Typ 3 verantwortlich.
