Die die FSGS ist eine fortschreitende Vernarbung der Nierenkörperchen die in der Histologie fokal, nur einzelne Glomeruli betreffend, und segmental, nur Teile eines Glomerulus beobachtet wird.
Symptome der FSGS sind Proteinurie, glomeruläre Erythrozyturie und eine progrediente Verschlechterung der Nierenfunktion. Die Symptome können ab dem 10. Lebensjahr auftreten und bis zum terminalen Nierenversagen führen.
