Der familiäre Hyperaldosteronismus typ 2 ist definiert als autosomal dominante Erkrankung, die weder mit Glucocorticoiden supprimierbar noch durch Mutationen in einem der bekannten Gene ausgelöst wird. Oft, aber nicht immer, kommt es zu uni- oder bilateralen Adenomen. In einigen Familien wird eine Assoziation mit dem Chromosomenlokus 7p22 beobachtet.
Die Erstbeschreibung eines familiären Hyperaldosteronismus der nicht mit Glucocorticoiden supprimierbar war, erfolgte in den frühen 90ger Jahren.[Error: Macro 'ref' doesn't exist]
Bis zu 6% der Patienten mit primärem Hyperaldosteronismus scheinen einen familiären Typ 2 zu haben.[Error: Macro 'ref' doesn't exist]
