Die kongenitale Laktoseintoleranz ist eine autosomal rezessive Erkrankung, die durch Mutationen des LCT-Gens hervorgerufen wird. Die Erkrankung ist charakterisiert durch kolikartige Leibschmerzen, Durchfälle und Gedeihstörungen insbesondere bei den von Milchnahrung abhängigen Säuglingen.
Sekundäre Formen des Laktoseintoleranz, wie sie insbesondere nach (gastronintestinalen) Infektionen entstehen sollten differentialdiagnostisch abgegrenzt werden.
Die Erkrankung kann durch Weglassen von Laktose in der Nahrung effektiv beherrscht werden. Diese ist vor allem in Milchprodukten vorhanden, aber kann versteckt auch in anderen Lebensmitteln vorkommen, sogar in verschiedenen Tabletten.
