Failure to thrive
Failure to thrive describes the observation of delayed development in children. It not only includes growth and weight gain but also neuromuscular and psychological aspects.
The diagnosis failure to thrive is rather an observation, a subjective symptom, which however can be measured objectively, growth an weight gain for instance.
The cause may be endogenous (mostly malabsorption) or exogenous hunger.
|Apparent mineralocorticoid excess|
Failure to thrive is the result of excessive renal water and mineral losses due to polyuria.
