Das TBX18-Gen kodiert einen Transkriptionsfaktor der insbesondere bei der Embyonalentwicklung eine wichtige Rolle zu spielen scheint. Mutationen führen zu autosomal dominenten kongenitale Anomalien der Niere und des Harntraktes 2 (CAKUT2).
