Komplement-Komponente C3
Das Gen C3 kodiert eine wichtige Komponente in der Complementkaskade. Loss-of-function Mutationen führen zu einem autosomal rezessiven C3-Mangel, der klinisch durch rezidivierende Infektionen gekennzeichnet ist. Dagegen sind aktivitätssteigernde Mutationen beim atypischen (hereditären) HUS beobachtet worden. Einige Polymorphismen sind mit der altersabhängigen Makuladegeneration assoziiert.
