Unter Hypomethylierungs-Syndrom werden verschiedene Störungen der körperlichen Entwicklung zusammengefasst bei denen die molekulare Ursache eine zu geringe Methylierung der CpG-Inseln verschiedener Gene nachweisbar ist. Die der Erkrankung zugrunde liegenden Gendefekte sind noch nicht genau aufgeklärt, wenn gleich verschiedene Gene mit einem Effekt auf die Methylierung bekannt sind.
