Das HANAC-Syndrom ist eine autosomal dominante Erkrankung. Die klinische Symptomatik beinhaltet eine hereditäre Angiopathie mit Nephropathie, Aneurysmen und Krämpfen.
Die Abgrenzung gegenüber der Porenzephalie, einer autosomal dominanten Erkrankung die ebenfalls durch Mutationen dieses Gens hervorgerufen wird, ist anhand des fehlenden zerebralen Phänotyps möglich.
Für das HANAC-Syndrom scheinen insbesondere Mutationen in der CB3[IV]-Domaine verantwortlich zu sein.
