Die progressive knöcherne Heteroplasie ist eine durch deaktivierende Mutationen im GNAS-Gen hervorgerufene Erkrankung, die vor allem durch intramembranöse Ossifikationen gekennzeichnet ist. In variablem Maße ist auch das normale Skelett deformiert.
Die progressive knöcherne Heteroplasie wurde 1994 erstmalig als eigene Erkrankung von Kaplan et al. beschrieben.[Error: Macro 'ref' doesn't exist]
Die progressive knöcherne Heteroplasie (POH) beginnt bereits in früher Kindheit mit einer Ossifikation der Haut. Später wird das Unterhautbindegewebe bis hinzu Muskeln und Faszien einbezogen.
