Der zentrale Diabetes insipidus beruht auf einer verminderten Produktion des antidiuretisch wirksamen Hormons Arginin Vasopressin und läßt sich folglich durch eine Substitutionstherapie erfolgreich behandeln.
Als erstes wäre erworbene Formen des Diabetes insipidus, die zu einer inadäquaten Sekretion von antidiuretischem Hormon führen auszuschließen.
