Das idiopathische nephrotische Syndrom ist eine autosomal rezessive Erkrankung, die durch Mutationen des Podocin-Gens hervorgerufen wird.
Bei molekulargenetisch gesicherter Diagnose kann auf Glucocorticoide verzichtet werden. Nach der TRansplantation zeigen die Patienten sehr selten ein Wiederauftreten der Erkrankung inn der Transplantatniere. Deshalb sind solche Patienten vorzugsweise mit einer Nierentransplantation zu behandeln.
